Building a Worker-Led Labor Movement

The Region 6 education program is focused on identifying, recruiting, and developing a widespread network of worker leaders in every workplace who have the skills, analysis, and commitment to activate mass participation in a fighting labor movement.

  • We use a popular education approach that is highly interactive, grounded in members’ experiences, and focused on putting new tools into practice.

  • We take every element of education programming as an opportunity for leadership development and scaling up, including by working with members to grow facilitation skills, directly involving more members in planning & running conferences. Both at conferences and beyond, this involves empowering members with the tools & support to effectively replicate, co-develop, and lead workshops with their peers.  

  • Participation in union activity is itself one of the most powerful forms of education. To support this, we work to ensure all education work is highly tailored to members’ ongoing campaigns and contexts, is intentionally integrated with concrete action plans, & builds in practical applications and follow-up.

  • To be as practical and impactful as possible, our education work is closely coordinated between education, servicing, organizing, and political work in the region.

  • Strong communications programs are a critical component of widespread member educaiton. We work to build effective comms, political education, & resource sharing to reach more members & potential members, help workers sharpen analytic tools & power analysis, and build momentum & transparency.
