Statement on Budget Reconciliation Bill

The budget reconciliation bill passed by Republicans in Congress is an abomination for working people.

Working people across the U.S. are already struggling to make ends meet – working long hours for wages that aren’t keeping up with skyrocketing costs for housing, groceries, medical care, and childcare.

Rather than using the budget reconciliation process as an opportunity to lift up millions of working families, the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress have chosen to pour public money toward massive giveaways for the ultra-wealthy – to the tune of over four and a half TRILLION dollars in tax cuts for their billionaire friends

And who’s going to foot the bill? The 17 million people who will be kicked off their health insurance. The millions of kids who will go hungry because of the largest-ever cuts to food assistance. The blue-collar communities whose hope of renewed prosperity through investments in clean energy manufacturing is on the chopping block. The millions of families who will no longer be able to access dignified long-term care for their parents and grandparents. The millions of workers who will be burdened by dramatic increases in student loan bills, in energy bills, and more.

Republicans in Congress have made their position clear. Instead of standing with millions of working families, they’ve chosen to side with billionaires.
